CLINICS & SERVICES
THE PRACTICE NURSES
The practice nurses hold their own "surgeries" during normal surgery hours.
They carry out the following duties:
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Blood and urine testing
- Ear syringing
- Treatment of injuries
|
- Immunisation
- Chronic disease monitoring
- Dressing of wounds
- Dietary advice
|
The nurses always have up-to-date
advice on requirements for foreign travel. They are also available to give advice
and reassurance on minor health matters over the telephone.
Immunisation
All children are immunised at weekly clinics by the health visitors. Development
assessments are performed by the doctor with the health visitor in attendance.
The health visitors can help with advice on health care, particularly for expectant
mothers, babies and small children, the elderly and the handicapped. The health
visitors have an office in the surgery and can be contacted on weekdays by telephoning
01554 751816.
Maternity
We undertake full maternity care, both antenatal and postnatal. Our midwives offer
help and advice throughout pregnancy and will care for mother and baby during
the postnatal period in the home.
Minor Surgery
This clinic is held weekly for injections, aspirations, incisions, cautery (by
cryosurgery) and other lesions requiring removal.
Family Planning
We offer a full contraceptive service to our patients, including fitting of coils.
Special appointments may be required, so please discuss this with the receptionist.
Cervical Smears
All women are encouraged to have a regular smear test which the doctor or practice
nurse will carry out. Women should have this done every three years and appointments
made by a computer recall system are posted to those women whose smear is due.
Chronic Disease Management
Clinics are run to advise on asthma, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.
Patients are invited to attend for assessment, planning treatment regimes, support
and education.
Influenza Vaccination
An influenza vaccination programme is in operation every autumn to ensure that
all 'at risk' patients receive appropriate immunisations.
NON-NHS EXAMINATIONS
Medical examinations for special reasons, such as employment, fitness to drive
or insurance are not undertaken during routine surgery times. A special appointment
may be made with the doctor.
